Bio: Eddie J. Pesante González 

Eddie is a doctoral student in the Anthropology Department at the CUNY Graduate Center. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus, and a master’s in Anthropology from the Graduate Center at CUNY.  His current research project looks at rural and agricultural politics in Northern Ireland after Brexit. Specifically, he is looking at how the transformation of public policy, bureaucracy, and funding structures impacted rural development projects and political sovereignty in Northern Ireland.  Previously he conducted research on community groups’ efforts to secure renewable energy sources after hurricane María in Puerto Rico. Eddie currently teaches at John Jay College’s Department of Anthropology and at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Baruch College. He has previously worked at Hunter College, LaGuardia Community College, and the College of Staten Island.

Research Interests: Critical Agrarian Studies, Populism, Rural Politics, Social Movements, Sovereignty, Political Anthropology, Nationalism, Political Economy, Sovereignty; the Caribbean, Europe, The British Isles, Northern Ireland, Puerto Rico
